SERENE is one of those boats that looks great as you approach on from the launch or from the dock, and looks even better once you step aboard.  If you are interested in the Sou'wester 42, you know just how special these boats can be. SERENE is special - she has had just two owners, with the current owner loving her for 17 years.  She shows great, and presents herself with pride and dignity.

We all know that the SW42 has the right pedigree of design and build.  When looking for one, the next most important factor, in this Broker's opinion, is how she has been maintained.  This translates into what many call "condition" - but it goes deeper.  It really means is the boat ready to be sailed and enjoyed without the need to play catch-up on maintenance or necessary upgrades.

SERENE has enjoyed a pampered life.  She was always cared for at either Hinckley or Dodson Boatyard - two of the highest regarded yards in New England.  Storage has been indoors, heated, and super clean.  Mast down and inside.  All maintenance done seasonally - including engine oil analysis, seacocks serviced, winches, serviced, sails serviced, etc.  Yes, every season.

In addition, her engine is a replacement and an upgrade to 64 hp - we do not know the actual year, but it has impeccable service and years of oil analysis to prove it.

Sloop rigged, with an electric in-mast Stowaway furling system.  The Harken Mk III headsail furler operates "like butter".  Sails are not recent but are in great shape.  Hull paint and varnish are top-notch.

The interior is super special on this boat - the somewhat rare Ash wood is light, refreshing and sumptuous with exceptional grain.  Many modern boats are using faux ash and oak finishes - this is the real thing, and it is gorgeous.

Granted, she is somewhat simple (no shore power - she aways on a mooring) - but I prefer to buy boats that are simply equipped and highly maintained - just like SERENE.  And not buggered up with a bunch of old equipment that is now outdated.  One might want to refresh the electronics on SERENE, but it is not necessary.

Enjoy SERENE just the way she is, or make updates over time if you wish - either way she is going to take great care of you and deliver an exceptional ownership and sailing experience to her new owners.

Ready to be seen in Stonington, CT, just a short drive from I-95.  Come take a look - it will be worth the drive.

OVERVIEW

INTERIOR:

Crafted as only Hinckley seems to do - this interior is done in a gorgeous Ash with rich varnish finishes.  The layout is traditional, with straight settees and centerline drop leaf table.  Hull ceilings throughout. Solid teak and holly cabin sole - where do you find that today?  Excellent ventilation and light.  Lovely upholstery.  The photos tell the story best, but here are some highlights.

The forward stateroom is quite luxurious - with generous storage, lighting and ventilation, as well as a private entry to the head.  The vee berth has an insert to use when desired.  There are two drawers and two lockers under the vee berth.  A small bureau with three drawers and a locker aboce.  Sotrage lockers port and starboard above the vee berth with sliding doors.  And a large hanging locker.

The head has two entrances, significant storage and lighting.  Hot and cold pressure water and shower, as well as a manual faucet for preserving energy.  Wilcox Crittenden manual toilet.

The Salon has a large dining table which can be expanded with two raised leaves.  There is storage in the table.  Both settees port and starboard pull out to make wider berths.  The pilot berth to port above the settee is a crowd favorite!  Storage both port and starboard in several drawers and lockers, with lockers and shelves above the starboard settee.  There is lovely Paul Luke stainless steel/soap stone stove/heater against the main bulkhead, and central heating via an Espar system.

Aft to port, the galley is a proper sea-going galley and has all the amenities for life at sea or in port.  A large refrigerated box featuring two SeaFrost holding plate refrigeration units.  A three burner stainless steel propane stove, with oven.  Double stainless steel sinks.  Excellent locker storage both out board and aft, with dedicated areas for plates, bowls, glassware, etc  A dedicated trash bin on a hinged access panel. And a fold-up counter extension.

Aft to starboard is the highly functional navigation station, with a navigator's seat and storage under the chart table and in drawers.  The electrical panel for both AC and DC systems is at the nav station.  Aft of the nav station is many sailor's favorite quarter berth -with a great side access that leads to a hanging/wet locker and allows fantastic access to the side of the engine. This berth has a lee board on hinges for offshore sailing.

The engine is positioned under the stairs, with a fully opening forward panel(s) and side access from the starboard side.  The engine room is neat and tidy, with excellent access to filters, belts, strainer, etc.

The cockpit is pure Hinckley - elegant, simple, totally comfortable.  One large and deep cockpit locker to port, two more under the helm seat.  There is an aft lazarette under a solid teak locker cover, the propane storage is in this area.
